    • Coming Along....
    • Hey, just checking in to let you know that we're hard at work on the new Loquat album. We have a second batch of songs almost ready to record in the next month.

In the meantime, we have a couple shows coming up in SF and will be making plans to do a little touring in late summer/early fall. Next show is June 5 in SF (check out details to the right).

      • Photos From Our First Day of Recording
      • Hey all, so yesterday's first day of recording was superfun and a little exhausting. We were at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA for about 10 hours, but we managed to get the better part of four songs done. Now we'll take those songs and work on them some more in the Rondo Brothers' studio. That's when some of the fun production stuff will happen, and we'll do backup vocals, acoustic guitar, and a few other things.

Here are some photos from the day: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anthonysanfrancisco/sets/72157623567015358

And a great film maker by the name of Laura captured the day on video, so hopefully we'll have some of that to show everyone soon.

        xoxo, Loquat

      • New Loquat album, Teen Mom, and Noise Pop
      • Happy New Year! Hope you're enjoying the new decade as much as we are. We are getting ready to start recording our third full-length album in the next couple months. We're working out all the arrangements and parts, so we'll be ready to hit the ground running. The first five songs are ready to go....

In case you missed it, here's a link to our song on MTV's Teen Mom, Episode 1. Our song "Harder Hit" comes in during the last couple minutes of the show: http://www.mtv.com/videos/teen-mom-ep1-looking-for-love/1627635/playlist.jhtml.

And our first show with our new guitarist, Chip, is coming up. We're playing the Noise Pop festival at Bottom of the Hill with Memory Tapes. You can get tickets here.

      • New video for "Big Key, Little Door" up today!
      • Hey! Check out our new video for "Big Key, Little Door," directed by Tuan Le and Jack Birmingham (rabbitwerks.com). It's a little trip down the rabbit hole in the everyday, ho-hum life of our protagonist. She's trying to figure out what the hell to do with her life, and she meets some interesting characters along the way.

See if you can find three references in the video to the song's Alice in Wonderland theme. The first two peeps to email us at loquatmusic@yahoo.com with three of the references will win a free CD.

      • Watch new video here!

      • Summer t-shirt sale ends Sept. 8.... "Big Key" video debuts Sept. 22!
      • Hello and happy Labor Day weekend.... Our summer merch sale ends after Labor Day: last chance to buy a t-shirt for $8. We're phasing out both the cherry-blossom and devil/angel designs to make way for a new design, so supplies are limited.

In other news, we'll be debuting our brand-new video for our song, "Big Key, Little Door," on Sept. 22. Directed by Tuan Le and Jack Birmingham, the story takes a couple bizarre trips down the rabbit hole....

Also, we're almost done writing songs for our upcoming third full-length album. Stay tuned for news on that in the coming months....

        Love, Loquat

P.S. Thanks to all the Bay Area peeps for making us the SF Bay Guardian's Best of the Bay "Best Indie Act" this year.

      • Summer merch sale and last of the Fall 10-inch-vinyl for sale
      • Happy summer! We're in the midst of writing a new album, so we won't be playing shows for a minute, but we'll be back in action soon. In the meantime, check out our summer merch sale in the "Buy Stuff" section of the site.

We've got t-shirts for $8 (plus $2 shipping in the U.S.), and we have a very special reappearance of our long-lost 10-inch vinyl EP, Fall. It's a long story about how these last couple boxes were unearthed, but we have them (although we've already sold one box). When they're gone, they're gone.

      • Two more SF residency show dates, tomorrow and Thursday, May 28
      • Heeeeeey, so we're midway through our residency at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco, and it's been superfun. Tomorrow is a "locals only" show with venerable music icon Mark Eitzel (formerly of American Music Club) singing a couple songs with us. And SF bands The Union Trade and Aim Low Kid will open. Plus AmpLive from Zion-I will DJ, and Kernel Panik will do visuals for us again.

In other news, we finished shooting a video for "Big Key, Little Door," which is currently being edited. We'll debut the video sometime this summer. And also stay tuned for that Junior Sanchez remix, which is coming out next month on DJs Are Not Rockstars. They're just tweaking artwork for it now. And more to come....

        Love, Loquat

      • San Francisco residency, new videos in the works, and remixes
      • Hi, we're back from SXSW, and we had an amazing time. Thanks to all who came to see us. For all you Bay Area peeps, coming up in May is our month-long residency at Cafe du Nord.

We're playing every Thursday, May 7, 14, 21, and 28, and every week will be different. We're reworking older songs, polishing up new ones, learning new covers, etc. We can't wait.

Also in the works are the release dates for the Junior Sanchez ("Harder Hit") and Amplive ("Sit Sideways") remixes. Looks like "Harder Hit" will be coming at the end of April, and "Sit Sideways" will be May. Kylee went to Amplive's studio (at Green Day's 880 complex) yesterday to add some new vocals to his mix.

In the next couple months, we'll be shooting new videos for two songs: "Sit Sideways" and "Big Key, Little Door." More on that in a bit.

And we're also writing our next album, so stay tuned for news on that.

        Love, Loquat

      • Loquat + Victoria Secret and a little remixing project
      • The holidays are coming fast and furious, so we’re tied to the home front for a minute, but we’re challenging ourselves with a little project. For our next couple San Francisco shows, we're practicing our Christmas cover of The Pretenders’ “2000 Miles,” and we also started a remix project of sorts. It’s weird how we finish an album, and then somehow certain songs get excluded from our live sets. So we’re trying to go back and bring some songs out of the vault. This time, we decided to take “Need Air,” from our album It’s Yours to Keep, and rework it for our live show. It’s nice to revisit a song, do something new with it and rekindle the love. I forgot how much I liked playing that song.

So our album, Secrets of the Sea, is featured on Victoria Secret’s Pink Website along with seven other bands, including Bloc Party, Ting Tings and Kaiser Chiefs. Click on the arrow at the bottom right of the page: http://vspink.com/love_rock.jsp

Happy almost Turkey (or Tofurkey) day.

      • Belated hometown CD release party this Saturday!
      • Heeeey! We’re back from our Midwest/East Coast tour and finally got some sleep. Then Halloween and the election happened, and we stayed out all night, so the sleep deficit is creeping back up. No matter. This Saturday is our belated hometown release party for Secrets of the Sea at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco.

Speaking of the album, here’s one of our favorite reviews of it in everyone’s favorite hilarious newspaper, The Onion: http://www.avclub.com/content/music/loquat

It’s the same national paper that recently ran the awesome headline, “Dollar Bill On Floor Sends Wall Street Into Frenzy.” If you haven’t picked up a copy of Secrets of the Sea, a few places to get it include Virgin, Rasputin, Amoeba, iTunes, Amazon and right here on our site (see “Buy Stuff”). If you’re in the Bay Area, hope to see you this Saturday. If not, we’re plotting our next jaunts out of the Bay Area. And stay tuned for a really cool remix of our song “Sit Sideways” by Zion I’s Amplive, coming out on Om records in the next month.

      • Secrets of the Sea is almost here! Live 105 tonight!
      • Welcome to our brand-new Website! We'll miss the Bower Bird flying around, but hopefully you'll find everything you need here, among the whales, birds and bottles. On Tuesday, Secrets of the Sea will be available on Talking House Records, distributed through Fontana/Universal in the U.S. and Canada. Thanks to all the college, Internet and extra-terrestrial radio music directors who helped us make the Top 20 CMJ radio adds for last week. Speaking of radio, we're performing a stripped-down version of "Harder Hit" on San Francisco's Live 105 (105.3 FM) tonight. You can stream the show here: http://www.live105.com/. Just click on the "Listen Live" button. And last but not least, we leave for our little Midwest/East Coast tour this week! Check out the dates, as well as our new video and more on this site! xoxo, Loquat

      • "Harder Hit" debuted on Imeem.com today!
      • Along with launching a redesign of its site, Imeem.com also debuted our new video for "Harder Hit" today. The video is loosely based on the late '50s French film Le Ballon Rouge. Watch us as we play tug-o-war with and run around with the shape-shifting red balloon. And notice the dolphins, which were nice enough to show up to the video shoot. The awesome Wired magazine even wrote about it in their blog: http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/10/video-loquat-pl.html. Love, Loquat

      • Thanks to everyone who came to our show last Friday in San Francisco and hung out with us until 1 a.m. in the most freakishly bizarre heat. We've never played a show when it was that hot, not even in Phoenix.

Now for something a bit breezier: We're playing at this year's Treasure Island Music Festival on Saturday, September 20! Tickets are now on sale. Buy them for both days of the festival or just Saturday. We're playing with TV on the Radio, Goldfrapp, Justice, Hot Chip, CSS, Amon Tobin, Nortec Collective and other cool bands. • Things are percolating in Loquat land. Our album, Secrets of the Sea, will finally come out October 14, which seems like forever from now, but bass player Anthony and vocalist/guitarist Kylee got married that day two years ago, so it'll be a dual celebration, and there will likely be hangovers the next day. Time flies, and we need to release it right, which is why our label Talking House is makin' plans. Some things of interest coming up include a new video a month before the release, new Website (although we'll miss the flying Bower bird here) and touring. Stay tuned at our MySpace page to find out about some Loquat "missions" coming up en route to Oct. 14.

And if you're in San Francisco, come hang out with us at Cafe du Nord on June 20.

        Love, Loquat

      • So check it out! We finally hopped on someone else's train, and we're going to be releasing Secrets of the Sea this Fall! (Aiming for Sept. right now.) We're really excited: http://threcords.com

      • Yaaay, 4/20! Heh heh.... So we have great news to tell you, but it has to wait another day or two. It's all about the new album, when it's coming, etc. We're very excited. In the meantime, come see us in San Francisco at Cafe du Nord on June 20 with LoveLikeFire and the Union Trade. And thanks to everyone who has asked us to play in their city. We hope to make it to the Midwest and East Coast soon...and wherever else touring may take us.
